About this service

Description

The STD Panel (9), PCR Test aids in the evaluation of samples for multiple pathogens. These include Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma genitalium, Trichomonas vaginalis, Gardnerella vaginalis, Ureaplasma urealyticum and Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV1) along with the Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (HSV2). This test complex in nature and helps screen most common STDs.

The test comprises of a multiplexed real-time PCR technique which enables more DNA copies to be made in a reaction tube post its extraction from the pathogen. The test sample includes a urine sample or an endocervical swab.

The PCR technique helps in the detection of sexually transmitted diseases earlier than other tests occasionally, which could result in quicker, easier and less labor-intensive testing.

The STD Panel (9) PCR Test Report can generally be made available within 2-3 days of the sample collection at a Maxlab near you.

Overview of the STD Test

Being sexually active does have its risks, especially if you have different partners. One of those risks is the possibility of contracting a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD), such as gonorrhea, syphilis, or HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). Some STDs have cures, but others don’t. Regardless of whether an STD can be cured or not, it’s imperative that it be detected while still in the early stages to prevent it from getting worse or spreading to other people.

STDs begin as infections, which is why some health professional would rather call them Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI). Like any other type of infection, there is a way to detect an STD infection while it is still in its early form.

STD testing refers to several different methods to detect an infection, such as blood tests, vaginal discharge tests, stool test, and laparoscopy. Each type of STD has a different method of detection.

Apart from the symptoms, STDs also affect the person in different ways, such as emotionally and socially. For instance, if the tests produce a positive result, the infected person is morally obligated to inform his or her sexual partners of the condition. This is so that they can also undergo STD testing and receive treatment if required. People with an STD can feel socially disgraced, which could lead to emotional difficulties.

There are many benefits of STD testing for both men and women.

One benefit of STD testing is that if you have been tested and found to be positively infected, then you will know what the symptoms of sexually transmitted infections are. This way, you will be able to recognize the symptoms. Some of the symptoms of stds include sores in and around the genitals, discharge from the genitals, itching, burning sensation during urination or sexual intercourse, and burning and itching in the vaginal area. These symptoms are very similar to those of other STDs, like syphilis or HIV. If you have any of these symptoms, then you should be tested for STDs.
